mws file extractor, is there another way

I don't want to pay for the mywebserever file extractor, and i want to be able to us files that people are uploading. I notice that you can just change the file extension from mim to whatever the file is and you can use it, but the name of the file ins't there. Is there someway around this, is there a different program that i can use? Help would greatly be appriciated
