how to add password on some web pages

Hi

First: I'm very glad for mywebserver :-) very stable

Question: I want to add passwordproctedtion on some of my pages on the web server. but i cant get it to work.

I have read on the web, one way to do it is to add a file .htaccess in the dir which I want to protect and then let it point on the cgi-bin dir where the htpasswrd file contain the password...

So on mywebserver I have enabled the cgi access but it does not work, why?

Do I have to add some exe file in the cgi-bin dir??
like perl.exe?
