Q: Who should read this document? A:You should read this document if you are a member of the press and have general technical questions. Q: What is MyWebServer? A: MyWebServer is a new Windows file sharing program from MyWebServer LLC that lets you, your friends, and everyone in the world share files! Built on web browser technology, MyWebServer provides a simple, easy to use interface that allows anyone on the internet to access your files with nothing more than a web browser and a password. Q: How do I use MyWebServer? A: You and a group of your friends can use use MyWebServer as a tool to create a walled in electronic file sharing community under your own control. MyWebServers built in password protection controls who can gain access to it. This improves your computer performance and network connection speed over other public file sharing architectures. In public file sharing systems you share your computers processing power and internet connection bandwidth (speed) with complete strangers. This can result in cyber grid-lock bringing your computer and internet connection to a crawl for you and all the strangers that are downloading files from your computer. If you are only sharing files with with your friends you'll have the peace of mind at least someone you know is getting the benefit of your reduced computer power and speed. You can also use MyWebServer as an unrestricted global file sharing tool without any password protection. You can even pick and choose which files you want to make available to the public and those you want to password protect. Q:What are the benefits of using MyWebServer? A: You can preserve all your computer's processing power and internet connection speed for yourself. The processing power and bandwidth you save allows you and your collaborators to exchange larger higher quality media files like pure uncompressed audio or video clips or files that have been compressed with lossless compression schemes like the .shn audio format from etree.org. Q: What are the differences between Napster, Gnutella and MyWebServer? A: Napster is a peer to peer network where users can share files with everyone however it incorporates a central server for indexing the names and locations of all the files currently available. Gnutella is a peer to peer network where users can also share files with everyone but it does not depend on any one server. MyWebServer is also peer to peer and allows you to share files with anyone on the internet or to limit the access to those files with a password. You might want to restrict the access to the files could be because of the sensitive nature of the file contents or to limit the extent which complete strangers can adversely affect your computing and connection speed. Q: Will you be shut down like Napster? What is the difference? A: Unlike Napster, MyWebServer does not depend on a central server to index files or mediate transfers. MyWebServer LLC only provides a software tool which functions as a personal web server and application server. MyWebServer LLC has no control over the content which users decide to share, or what users are searching for. Since there is no central server, it is impossible to block or censor content at one choke point. Since MyWebServer uses http protocols and tcp/ip port 80 to communicate it would be very difficult to electronically filter out and stop on any network without also blocking all web access as well. Other file sharing strategies are based on well known port numbers that can be blocked by routers and firewalls because those port numbers are not used by any other internet services. Stealth is in the sheer numbers if you want to prevent your Personal Web Site from being blocked by routers or firewalls operate your server on Port 80. Q: Where are the press releases located?
